Who is responsible for data at Rice University? EVERYONE AT RICE UNIVERSITY
Executive sponsors for Rice University’s Business Intelligence Initiative set the vision for the importance of data quality and data-informed decision-making. Data trustees are campus leaders whose strategic focus is on the oversight of Rice’s data strategy to improve the quality, access, usage, sharing, and security of university data. The data trustees set Rice’s data strategy priorities and develop Rice’s administrative data policies. Data stewards are functional area data experts and are responsible for the definition, implementation, and enforcement of administrative data policies within their functional area.
The Data Stewards Advisory Group (DSAG) comprises key campus data stewards and is responsible for implementing Rice’s data policies set by the data trustees. The DSAG promotes consistent and effective administrative data policies and establishes common data definitions used throughout the university to ensure the quality and consistency of Rice’s data assets. The core membership of the DSAG is composed of data stewards from central administrative offices:
